The short version

Where your power actually goes

Solar covers the house first. A battery catches what is left instead of selling it at a few cents and buying it back at full price after dark.

How a solar and battery system fits together Sunlight hits the solar panels, which produce DC electricity. That goes to a hybrid inverter, which converts it to AC for the house. Surplus power charges the home battery. Anything left over is exported to the grid. At night the house draws from the battery first, and only from the grid once the battery is empty.
